Compared to traditional wire braces, Invisalign clear aligners are virtually invisible on your teeth and are typically much more comfortable to wear. They essentially eliminate the risk of injury to your gums and mouth that broken wires or brackets can cause.
To obtain results with traditional straightening methods, you must follow up frequently for adjustments in the tension of your braces. This increased pressure can lead to hours or days of discomfort afterward and may require a soft food diet until the pain resolves. The Invisalign method produces controlled tooth movement with fewer office visits and less discomfort. And you can continue to eat the foods you love.

Dr. Pak uses 3D technology to create a digital impression of your current alignment and maps out a series of slight adjustments that gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. During treatment, you receive several sets of custom-fit, clear aligners that you change about every two weeks, going on to the next set of aligners. Your teeth move gradually with each set of aligners until they’ve reached the final position.
Plan to wear the clear aligners 20-22 hours per day, but they’re designed to slip on and off easily so you can remove them for eating, brushing, and flossing. Always brush after eating to avoid staining the aligners with food residue. Invisalign offers a special system for cleaning the aligners themselves, but you can also simply brush and rinse them in lukewarm water.
Expect to visit the office about once every six weeks or as recommended by Dr. Pak. These visits are used to ensure your treatment progresses as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months. The average number of aligners required during treatment varies, but ranges from 18-30.
With any straightening method, most dentists suggest you wear a retainer to keep your teeth in proper alignment after completing treatment. Should Dr. Pak recommend a retainer, Invisalign offers Vivera® clear retainers for successfully maintaining your smile.
